What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a discreet, very effective and popular teeth straightening treatment, favoured by adults and teenagers looking for a way to achieve their ideal straight smile without metal wires or brackets. It uses a series of bespoke clear aligners to gradually and gently move your teeth into new and more desirable positions to enhance your smile.

The clear aligners need to be worn for at least 21 hours per day, but can be removed to allow you to eat, drink and brush your teeth without restrictions. Each clear aligner is worn for two weeks before being replaced by a new one to continue your treatment progress.

What does the Invisalign treatment process involve?

  • Step 1 - Consultation

Your Invisalign treatment journey begins with a detailed consultation. I examine your teeth, ask you about your ideal results and explain the full Invisalign process. You also get the chance to ask me any questions you have about your treatment.

  • Step 2 - Planning

Using digital scans and images of your mouth, I create your bespoke treatment plan to ensure the best and most accurate outcome. With innovative ClinCheck software, I can show you a predicted preview of your new smile and even how your teeth will move as you wear your aligners, all before treatment has even begun!

    Step 3 - Treatment

Your custom-made clear aligners are created to your exact specifications, based on your bespoke treatment plan. You need to wear each aligner for two weeks before changing to the next one, carefully moving your teeth little by little with controlled and careful motion. I keep a close eye on your treatment progress at regular appointments, making small adjustments if necessary to ensure incredible results.

Step 4 - Results and retention

When your last aligner has been worn, your treatment is complete! I make sure you are happy with your new smile, and show you how much it has improved. To finish, I fit you with a retainer to keep your teeth in their new positions for the long term.

How can clear aligners help me?

The power of straighter teeth to give you a confident smile and huge boost to your self-esteem shouldn’t be underestimated. With Invisalign, this begins even during treatment, with your new smile gradually being revealed through your discreet clear aligners.

A straighter smile isn’t just about aesthetics, though. Straightening your teeth and ensuring an even bite can also have a very positive effect on your facial structure and overall appearance, enhancing the shape and balancing your facial profile.

Frequently asked questions

Invisalign aligners are designed with comfort in mind, giving them a snug and accurate fit over your teeth. They also will not rub your gums or irritate your mouth, which can occur with fixed braces. You will likely experience some discomfort when you first start wearing your aligners, but this is temporary and will fade.

Depending on the complexity of your case, you can expect your clear aligner treatment to take around 9-18 months. You will be given a more specific timeframe relating to your individual requirements and clinical need at your initial consultation.

There is no upper age limit for Invisalign! If you have always wanted straighter teeth but have never taken the plunge with treatment, now could be your chance. Invisalign is a very effective and easy way for adults to improve the appearance of their smiles, and can also be used in some cases to correct relapse following previous treatment.

Invisalign is convenient, easy to use and achieves excellent results in a relatively short time, making it an exceptionally popular orthodontic treatment with patients looking to enhance their smiles worldwide. The treatment offers an effective and successful way to achieve your dream smile without the worry about feeling self-conscious in obvious metal braces. Invisalign is the market leader as they constantly reinvest, review and refine their aligners to ensure they are more effective at tooth straightening.

A retainer is a vital part of any orthodontic treatment, used to keep your teeth in their new straighter positions once your braces have been removed. You will need to wear your retainer on a part time basis (usually overnight) indefinitely, maintaining your hard work during treatment and preventing relapse.

When you first begin your Invisalign treatment, you may notice a slight difference in the way you talk, or develop a temporary lisp. However, this is short-lived, and will fade as you get used to the feeling of the aligners in your mouth.
