Why choose ceramic braces?

  • Discreet

The brackets used for ceramic braces are small and subtle, and blend into your teeth. Your braces are barely noticeable during treatment, making them a popular option.

  • Predictable

Ceramic braces are a very reliable way to achieve a predictable final result, moving your teeth little by little to achieve your ideal straight smile.

  • Durable

Fixed ceramic braces are strong and secure, using advanced materials to give similar durability to metal brackets and enable them to withstand chewing forces.

  • Effective

Using precise movements, ceramic braces can be used to successfully treat a wide range of orthodontic problems, including crowded and crooked teeth.

What are ceramic braces?

Ceramic braces are a more aesthetic alternative to metal fixed braces, giving many of the same benefits in a discreet way. They are much less noticeable than the traditional treatment, making them popular with people who may be worried about feeling self-conscious as they straighten their teeth.

Small tooth-coloured ceramic brackets are fitted to the front surface of your teeth with a thin wire threaded through. Your braces stay on your teeth for the duration of treatment, ensuring a reliable result. Ceramic braces can be a very effective option for those people who may be unsuitable for Invisalign clear aligners, with the added bonus of no risk of losing or breaking removable braces.

What does the ceramic braces treatment process involve?

  • Step 1 - Consultation

If you are interested in ceramic braces, your treatment journey begins with a detailed consultation with me. I examine your teeth and discuss the full process with you, giving you the chance to ask any questions. I also make sure I ask about your ideal results and dream smile!

  • Step 2 - Planning

Using digital scans and images taken of your teeth, I plan your treatment. It is completely bespoke to you and takes many factors into account, including your desired outcome and how much your teeth have to move. At this stage, I can give you more detailed information on the costs and timescales of your treatment.

  • Step 3 - Fitting and treatment

I fix small and subtle ceramic brackets to the front of your teeth using strong dental-safe adhesive, before threading the wire through that will control the tooth movements. During your treatment, I see you for regular appointments to ensure everything is going to plan and make adjustments to your ceramic braces for the best results.

  • Step 4 - Results and retention

When your treatment is complete, I remove the ceramic brackets from your teeth and reveal your new straight smile! I make sure you are happy with your results, and can show you a photo taken before treatment so you can really see the difference. I also give you a custom retainer to ensure your teeth stay straight.

How can ceramic braces help me?

Ceramic braces are an excellent option for patients who need the reliability and effectiveness of fixed braces but are put off by the obvious metal look. With the more discreet options, patients of all ages can feel confident during their teeth straightening journey.

Orthodontic treatment with ceramic braces isn’t just about how your teeth look during and after treatment. Straighter teeth and a more even bite can do wonders for your facial structure and overall appearance, balancing your facial profile and improving shape.

Frequently asked questions

Ceramic braces carry many of the same benefits as metal braces, but in a much more discreet way. Metal is arguably stronger, although modern materials mean ceramic can now match the durability. Many people choose ceramic fixed braces based on aesthetics.

Ceramic braces are certainly less visible than the metal alternative, and are a much more cosmetic approach. The braces blend into your teeth, making them barely noticeable unless someone is very close. The ceramic material makes these braces a great option for people worried about feeling self-conscious with metal brackets and wires.

Having ceramic braces fitted onto your teeth doesn’t hurt and is a non-invasive process. When the braces are on your teeth, they won’t be painful, but you may feel some temporary discomfort in the first few days, and each time your brace is adjusted.

The treatment time for ceramic fixed braces varies from patient to patient, depending on the condition of your teeth and how far they have to move. On average, ceramic braces treatment takes around 12 to 30 months, but some cases may see results faster than that. You will get a more exact time at your initial consultation.

Ceramic braces are fixed onto your teeth for the duration of treatment, and can’t be removed. You need to eat with them in your mouth, which will become second nature after a few days. To avoid any damage to your brace or teeth, you should avoid very sweet, sticky or hard foods. If you have any questions or need some tailored advice, please just ask!

Retainers are a very important aspect of all orthodontic treatment, and are used to keep your teeth straight for the long term. They are usually worn overnight to stop your teeth relapsing and moving back to their original places. Retainers are custom made for you and comfortable to wear.

Fixed braces will not damage your teeth. I am best placed to look after the health and structure of your teeth and will ensure they are monitored during treatment. I also use dental-safe adhesive which will not damage your tooth enamel. It is important to note that not all cases suit lower ceramic braces. Patients with deep bites may ‘rub’ on the lower ceramic brackets, which are harder than tooth enamel so can wear the edges of the teeth down. This will be assessed and discussed on an individual basis at your consultation so I can determine whether ceramic braces are suitable for you.
